A review by Malloggi et al. found that inhaling lavender essential oil effectively decreased anxiety levels across multiple studies. Participants reported feeling calmer and more relaxed after lavender aromatherapy sessions. The anxiety-reducing effects of lavender are believed to be linked to its interaction with NMDA receptors in the brain, which play a role in mood regulation.
