HOW CAN ACUPUNCTURE BENEFIT MY HEALTH?
Acupuncture offers so much more than reducing pain
Acupuncture can improve and restore your overall health by moving and enhancing energy flow, or “qi” (life force) in the body. The effect of the tiny hair-like needles causes energy to be simulated and to flow where nerves and blood vessels come together underneath the surface of the skin. It is believed that blockages or stagnation in our energy is the root of the eventual manifestation of physical discomfort, emotional distress, and ultimately may contribute to diagnosable disease. Therefore, by encouraging the flow of the body’s qi through acupuncture, a healthy balance of all systems in our body can be supported, and a preventive approach to optimal health encouraged.
Acupuncture is effective at supporting stress and anxiety, emotional disturbance, and generally most feelings of unwellness that we experience. Additionally, individuals with medical conditions, or who may be dealing with infertility, inflammatory disease, cancer, recovering from disease or surgery, or even experiencing unpleasant side-effects of their medications, may also benefit from acupuncture, as acupuncture can help strengthen the foundation of the body’s immunity and reserves. Unlike many treatments for disease in Western medicine, the holistic (whole-body) experience of acupuncture addresses the root of the source of imbalance and feeling unwell.
At Seyhart, we use acupuncture to complement medical care you may be receiving from your Western medical physicians. Our acupuncture experience is not a substitute for medical care, nor is it to be used to replace medical therapies that are necessary to treat your underlying medical conditions. All medical conditions must be diagnosed and treated by your physician team.

ACUPUNCTURE
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a key component of traditional Eastern medicine that has been practiced for over 2,000 years. Acupuncture balances the body’s energy flow, also known as chi or qi. The insertion of very thin needles into specific pathways of the body, known as meridians, stimulates increased circulation and achieves energy balance. The circulation of energy allows for a holistic approach to healing and recovery.
How can I benefit from acupuncture?
By enhancing your energy balance, acupuncture can improve and help to restore your overall health. Underlying health conditions, stress and other disorders may benefit from improving the energy balance and flow in your body.
Do the acupuncture needles hurt?
Acupuncture needles are as thin as a human hair and insertion usually causes little to no discomfort. There may be some areas of the body where the needles may feel more noticeable than others.
Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is extremely safe with a very low risk for infection. The site of insertion is disinfected before the disposable needle is placed. Although rare, you may experience slight soreness, bleeding, or bruising which will disappear in a few days.
How often can I get acupuncture?
Every person is unique and responds to acupuncture differently. Although you may experience sudden and rapid improvement with just one acupuncture experience, the benefit of acupuncture for most clients is a slow, steady and cumulative process of recovery. Your Seyhart acupuncturist can suggest a treatment plan for you.
Can I get acupuncture if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Acupuncture is generally considered safe both during pregnancy and when you are nursing. Some types of acupuncture may stimulate labor. We recommend you consult with your physician if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant before receiving any services at Seyhart.
Can I get acupuncture when I am menstruating?
Yes, it is safe to receive acupuncture and reflexology when you are menstruating. If fact, they may help improve some of your menstrual and premenstrual symptoms.
What is facial acupuncture?
Facial acupuncture is specifically intended for the face. By stimulating collagen production and enhancing circulation, facial acupuncture can improve the quality and appearance of the skin.
Is there an acupuncture alternative without needles?
Seyhart now offers Tuina, a tactile physical experience, one of the oldest forms of Chinese holistic medicine. A firm manual approach, Tuina includes pressing, rubbing and kneading of the soft tissues. Like acupuncture, Tuina stimulates the body’s energy (life force or Qi), enhances blood flow for toxin release, and nourishes the body and organs.
TUINA
What is tuina?
Tuina is a firm massage-like experience, including pressing, rubbing and kneading of the soft tissues. Tuina stimulates the body’s energy (life force or Qi), enhances blood flow for toxin release, and nourishes the body and organs. Tuina is our needle-free approach to acupuncture and is combined with either cupping or gua sha for optimal benefits.
CUPPING
What is cupping?
Cupping is a process that helps to dilate superficial blood vessels through heat. Cupping helps to increase local energy flow and can help to expel toxins. At Seyhart, heat is placed inside a glass cup and the cup is immediately placed on the body to create suction.
How can I benefit from cupping?
Cupping helps promote energy flow and aids in the release of toxins. Cupping can reduce local discomfort and can aid in deep relaxation.
What will my skin look like after cupping?
Cupping can cause temporary redness, bruising and mild soreness depending on how much suction is created and the level of your energy stagnation. Seeing these after-effects of cupping indicate that toxins have been released from the body.
GUA SHA
What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is an ancient Eastern healing technique. The circulation is enhanced by firm scraping movements of the skin using a massage tool. The level of pressure can be personalized to your needs.
How can I benefit from Gua Sha?
Gua Sha helps to stimulate the flow of energy. You may notice increased energy, improvement from fatigue and recovery from discomforts in the body. Gua Sha of the face can enhance the circulation for a refreshed appearance.

What is the role of herbal supplements in my health?

Taken together with regular physical exercise, good quality sleep, and acupuncture techniques, herbal remedies are an additional preventive and holistic strategy to support our health.
